It is good to be the King of junk, in Columbus, Ohio.

Starting Out:

Almost 2 years ago we became the first Junk King located outside of California when we opened our junk removal and hauling business here in Dublin, a suburb of Columbus, Ohio. We take great pride in offering excellent service and great value to our customers.

Located near Columbus, Ohio:

Being located in Northern Franklin County means we are ideally situated to serve suburbs and towns in this area and we frequently serve Dublin, Powell, Columbus, Hilliard, Westerville, New Albany, and Grove City. We even offer junk removal and hauling services as far north as Marysville and the Polaris area (which is something our competitors can’t say).

Environmentally Conscious Business:

A big factor in our success seems to be that we are “green.” A lot of our customers say that our description as “eco-friendly” contributed to their choosing us and we think that is because more and more people are concerned about the environment. We recycle over 65% of the items we collect and we donate all re-usable items to charity, so the amount of trash removed that ends up in a landfill is very small. It feels good to be in a business that helps people and the planet. Call us and we’ll pick up your bulk trash, donations, and recyclables fast and hassle-free!

Professional Furniture Disposal and Appliance Removal:

Many of our customers want help removing and disposing of large household objects especially big furniture and heavy, bulky appliances and we are always glad that people don’t risk injury by moving such things on their own; aside from being experienced, fit and strong, we also bring tools and equipment to assist us and make sure it is as safe as possible for everyone. We frequently remove and dispose of couches, desks, stoves, refrigerators, freezers, washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, furnaces, hot water heaters, air conditioners, and a surprising number of pool tables. We have never had a serious injury on a job and we work hard to keep it that way!

Hot Tubs, Spas, and Above-Ground Pools:

In the warmer months it sometimes seems like we run a business dedicated to removing hot tubs. These calls are one of the tougher calls we get, aside from the weight and size of most hot tubs they may also be connected to plumbing and electricity and this is where Eric’s experience installing water filtration systems really comes in handy because he understands all the dangers and the correct techniques needed to keep everyone (and everything) safe, dry and undamaged. The last thing our clients want to worry about is injury or damage and many hire us because they know we are experienced professionals.

Consumer Electronics:

We also get lots of calls to remove and recycle unwanted electronics like televisions and computers. As awareness about all the heavy metals and other toxic substances used in their manufacture grows, our services grows with it. It’s just not environmentally sound to throw away an old TV. We will pick it up and make sure that it is disposed of  properly. If it is a computer or any device with memory we will even make sure that the data is inaccessible so that it doesn’t fall into the wrong hands. All electronics are properly sorted, recycled, and safely disposed of.

Experience with Sensitive Situations:

It’s sad to say but we also sometimes get calls for sensitive and delicate situations like cleaning out estates, helping hoarders, and even foreclosures. In situations like that we exercise great care to act with sensitivity, professionalism and discretion. We think the least we can do is make a trying situation, like the death of a loved-one or the closing of a business, as painless and easy as possible.

Licensed, Bonded and Insured:

Our customers can rest assured that our employees all wear uniforms, and that we are licensed, bonded and insured. Our website features testimonials from some of our customers and we recently were awarded the Angie’s list super service award. On our site you can also find our blog about junk hauling and trash removal in Columbus, Ohio.

2011 is the Year to Start a Franchise Business

The Denver Business Journal recently published an article called “Franchising Expected to Pick Up This Year.” That’s a bit of an understatement. The International Franchise Association has some very optimistic stats for 2011.  Here are a few of them:

  • 4.7% Increase in Economic Output (services and goods that franchise businesses output)
  • 2.5% Increase in the number of franchise establishments and jobs (aprox. 194,000 more jobs nationally)
  • At the end of 2010 there were 765,723 franchise businesses, generating $706.6 billion, which will steadily increase throughout 2011.

Given the fact that the entire economy has been taking quite a hit over the past several years, these numbers are incredibly uplifting.  Although franchises in general have been slowly growing over the past decade, we saw a sharp decline in 2009 due to the economic downturn.  Now that we’re back on the right path  due to looser credit loans for businesses as well as a greater talent pool of workers going into franchising, we can expect continued growth in the sector.

Our Junk King franchisee out of Colorado Springs, Clint Hailey, was specifically highlighted in the Denver Business Journal as an example of how a franchise is a great way to start a successful business, particularly in the fast-growing junk removal industry.

From the Denver Business Journal: “The learning curve would be shortened; the success rate would be quicker,” said Hailey, who said he hopes to open another Junk King franchise in the Denver area after he’s made his first location profitable.  ”It’s kind of like a business in a box.  you open the box and it says, ‘Step one, step two, step three.’ Instead of creating your own dance steps, you get to put your feet on steps that are laid out for you.”

Junk King is currently riding the wave of overall increased franchise growth as well as specific growth in the junk removal franchise sector.   In 2011, Junk King is expected to see new franchises in a variety of locations across the country, including recent openings in Syracuse and Nashville, as well as the expected April launch of Junk King Los Angeles.

If you’re interested in starting your own Junk King franchise, feel free to check out our franchise information page or call 1-800-995 JUNK for more information.

What’s in a Junk King Web Page?

The world today is more connected than ever through the internet.    The majority of Americans are doing a large portion of their daily activities online, including shopping, social networking and research.   It’s not only about doing what’s trendy or popular, such as going on Facebook and Twitter.  It’s about having instant access to information, where you want it and when you want it.

With our customer’s best interests in mind, Junk King has thoroughly ramped up the online presence of each of it’s franchises with unique webpages that make it easier than ever to find out information about Junk King. These local pages let Junk King customers from across the country have instant access to all the junk hauling info they need, including an easy way to book a free on site estimate. Here are a few of the great features on each franchise page:

1.  We’re Local: Although Junk King is a nation-wide brand that you can trust to perform at the highest quality level, we also like to stress our local roots in each community.  That’s why franchise pages  offer a local flair – from providing pictures of the area around you to giving descriptions of the local franchise owners.

2.  Easy Booking: This is Junk King’s version of shopping online.  We wanted to make it as easy as possible for our customers to book a junk hauling appointment with us.  With a few mouse clicks you can have a free on site estimate booked and a Junk King hauling team on their way to your home or office.

3.  Social Networking: We realize the modern day importance of social networking.   Not only does social media provide another pathway to provide information to our customers, but it also lets our customers connect with us.   Have a question, complaint, or comment about Junk King in your local area?  Simply find the Twitter or Facebook feed on the franchise page and let them know what you have to say.  Also keep up to date with local Junk King deals or announcements so you can really take advantage of your next home cleaning adventure.

4.  Testimonials: We know that it’s important for our customers to hear what other people are saying about each local franchise.  That’s why there is a ‘testimonials’ section on each local page that gives you a sample of inputs from various customers.   Hopefully if you hear the good word out there you’ll consider your local Junk King franchise when you need hauling services for your  home or office.

Junk King’s New Year’s Resolutions 2011

We have had a great 2010 here at Junk King.  Not only have we expanded with many more franchises across the country, but we’ve also been able to continue to provide our customers with the high level of service that they’ve become accustomed to.   For Junk King, providing a top-notch junk hauling service that leaves our customers feeling satisfied has always been our number one priority.

Although we’re incredibly satisfied with 2010, that doesn’t mean we can’t have resolutions for the New Year.  Just like everybody else, we are always looking for new ways to improve. We want 2011 to be even better in terms of franchise expansion as well as providing our customers with the best hauling service out there.

So, without further adieu, here are Junk King’s New Year’s Resolutions for 2011.

- Stay the Green Path: Junk King has always been an eco-friendly company and we plan to continue our green ways into 2011. Our roots in the Bay Area are reflected throughout our franchises across the country who always make it a priority to recycle as much hauled material as possible.  With this mindset, not only can we help out businesses and homeowners by taking junk off their hands, but we can also make a difference by helping out the environment.

- Customer Satisfaction Stays on Top: No matter what we change, customer satisfaction will always be our number one priority. Going into the New Year, we want to make sure that although we are expanding, customer satisfaction continues to be the driving goal across all franchises.  We want to make sure that after a job is complete and we’ve finished loading up a truck, a customer can wave goodbye with a smile on their face and the knowledge that we’ve done a great job for them.

- More Junk King Franchises: So far we’re extremely satisfied that Junk King Franchises have been succeeding across the country, but this is just the start.  In 2011 we’ll see even more franchises in cities that could really use some great junk removal services.  Junk King Chattanooga and Syracuse are two of the first franchises that are set to launch in 2011 – expect many more to come.

No matter what happens in 2011, we’d like to thank all of our customers for their loyalty throughout the last year.  We look forward to working with new and old customers in the future.  Happy New Year!

Junk King Franchises Continue Expansion

Junk King continues to differentiate itself from its competitors by providing the most efficient, eco-friendly and affordable junk removal service across the country.  The hauling company is rapidly expanding into new territories, including notable recent openings in Massachusetts, Mesa, Phoenix and Colorado Springs as well as expected launches in Chattanooga, Kansas City, Minnesota and Ohio.

Junk King recently signed Peter Gilfillan, a former Ford Motor’s general manager, as a Master Franchisee to expand franchises into the Colorado, Minnesota and Ohio.  Dennis Mulgannon, Junk King’s Director of Franchises commented on the company’s rapid growth: “The growth of our business is skyrocketing due to the millions of people constantly looking for dependable services to clean clutter and unwanted items from their homes or businesses.  We’ve turned to Peter to build on our momentum and grab a large piece of the vast market share in the multi-billion dollar junk removal industry.”

There are several reasons thus far for Junk King’s rapid expansion, even during the recent economic downturn.  One is the company’s commitment to professionalism.  Every Junk King employee, whether they are working in San Francisco or New York, is hired based on high standards of professionalism, skill, and integrity.  These employees are bonded and insured to make sure that a customer and their property are safe.

Another reason for Junk King’s success has been their commitment to the environment.  In a country where the ‘next big thing’ is clean energy and green technology, it makes perfect sense that Junk King has devoted considerable resources to recycling a large quantity of hauled materials.  Not only does this help local communities by creating a greener environment, it also contributes to Junk King’s overall brand recognition as an eco-friendly business.

If you are a local entrepreneur interested in riding the wave of Junk King’s success, call 1-800-995 JUNK or find out more on the Junk King franchise opportunity site.

What’s in a Junk Removal Blog?

Many people out there might ask themselves: “What in the world is a Junk Removal Blog?  What could possibly be so interesting in the business of junk removal that would require a blog all about it?”  Although those questions are often asked, there is actually quite a bit of interesting news in the junk hauling sector nowadays, particularly for the Junk King organization.

Junk King is rapidly expanding across the US, with new franchises in various locations like Tampa, Colorado Springs, Arizona and Massachusetts.  Many of our franchisees have unique and interesting stories: from why they first got into the junk removal business to some of the strangest items they’ve ever picked up.  Each of our franchisees also has their own local blog, Twitter account, and Facebook page where they can post updates and news about their territory.

I’d like to highlight a few recent posts from Junk King franchises across the country:

From the Junk King North San Diego Blog, an interview with franchise owner Bob Hoath:

Question: Is there one specific hauling job that stands out in your mind?

Bob:   Yes, we recently did a job for a gentleman in Escondido.  He had items in his garage ranging from small furniture to electronics such as computers and stereo equipment.  He even had a large pile of shrubs and tree trimmings he needed to get rid of.  He was so pleased that we were able to take everything at a good price and in a timely manner that he called back to just to thank us again.

Question: What’s one of the most interesting type of junk you’ve hauled so far?

Bob: We once came across a customer who was a big hunter. He had us hauling away all kinds of weird items that relate to hunting.  Needless to say, we came across a real fowl smelling freezer that he wanted us to dispose of.

Question: What’s the biggest single item you’ve hauled so far?

Kyle: A 20-foot wooden sign making table.

Question: What’s the easiest part of your job?

Kyle: To me it’s dealing with the people, my wife and I both are very comfortable meeting new people and adapting to their needs.

History of the Franchise

Why are franchise businesses so popular in America and across the globe?  What is it about those familiar storefronts and services that keep customers coming back?  For years, customers have flocked to franchise businesses and have made them a powerhouse across a variety of industries, from restaurant chains to household services.  To analyze why the franchising model has come so far, I’d like to take a brief look at the history of the franchise.

Some attribute the formal start of the franchise to Albert Singer, who was the founder of the Singer Sewing Machine popularized during the World War I era.  However, the concept of franchising began long before Singer, in the mid 1800s when several German brewers licensed the rights to market their ales to specific taverns across the country.  This was a turning point towards the modern franchise business model: utilizing the centralized resources of an organization to market and expand independent satellite organizations.

In the U.S., Singer Sewing Machine Company began a movement towards the modern form of franchising with its unique business model.  Singer realized that spreading his technology across the United States, a huge landmass, would require a unique business perspective.  Trying to create one massive company across the U.S. wouldn’t work as far as distribution, chain of command and marketing.  However, creating individual ‘satellite’ franchises would allow each company to draw on the power of a centralized organization, but also act independently in their specific geographic region.

This model proved successful and spread to other industries, including street car manufacturers, oil refineries, auto companies and restaurants.  By the mid-twentieth century, several well known franchises had emerged, including McDonalds and Dunkin Donuts. Post World War II franchises continued to expand, and eventually came to be regulated by the International Franchise Association.

In today’s modern economy, many businesses have re-evaluated their organizations to ‘run lean.’  This means cutting unnecessary expenses and concentrating on a core business model. Running lean not only is a creed that has spread across businesses, but also a motto for individuals.  People are very aware of their possessions: what items are ‘necessary’ and what items are simply junk.

For this reason, one of the most cutting-edge franchise sectors is in Junk Removal.  Junk Removal Franchises are able to efficiently haul away the unnecessary clutter in people’s lives, so they can truly ‘run lean.’   In addition, some Junk Removal Franchises have latched onto today’s green movement – realizing the importance of conserving our planet’s valuable resources.

Junk King is a leader in the Junk Removal franchise sector – taking the best attributes of today’s successful organizations and applying them to a streamlined business model.  Junk King provides franchisees the potential to become involved in their community by helping them get rid of their waste and clutter, while also providing them a blueprint to start a successful business. Junk King is rapidly expanding across the US with it’s new perspective on business, just as the first franchises did years before. 4th of July Junk Removal

The 4th of July is coming up this weekend.  This a great time of the year when Americans celebrate their independence day with backyard barbecues and gatherings with families and friends.  The 4th of July is a fantastic holiday because it lets people simply enjoy themselves – whether it be sampling some good ole’ fashioned burgers and dogs, tossing back a cold one, watching sports, having a catch or any number of other summer activities.   Usually 4th of July parties take place at somebody’s house – is it going to be yours this year?

If that’s the case, you probably already know a bit of preparation will go into throwing a successful 4th of July party.  Beyond the standard prep such as inviting people, buying food and drinks, and cleaning the house, some heavy duty junk removal could help clear up some space for your party.  Here are a few areas of the house that could use some ‘de-cluttering’ for your 4th of July get together:

Grill & BBQ area: The grilling area is the command center of any respectable 4th of July BBQ.  This will be the place where people cook, gather around food, have drinks, and chat.  That said- any unnecessary junk in this area will make it feel small and cluttered for your guests.  If you bought a brand new grill for the fourth, the old one is probably still sitting on the porch. You’ll need to get rid of it.

Pool area: If you are lucky enough to have pool you’ll be sure to invite your 4th of July guests to take a dip, especially if it turns out to be a hot summer day.  If you have a pool, you can also be assured that your guests will brings friends and maybe even friends of friends.  You’ll want to ensure that your pool area can accommodate quite a few guests that will be eating, laying out, running around, as well as jumping in and out of the pool.  Any extra junk around the pool area can be both annoying and dangerous for your guests- be sure to haul that junk prior to your party.

Backyard: For most 4th of July events the backyard is center stage for the party.  This is where the kids will run to after dinner to release all that excess energy. This is where the teens will escape to get away from the adults, and where you might consider throwing a ball around to burn off that extra burger and helping of potato salad. Any clutter like Yard Waste will only get in the way of having fun.  A clutter-free yard will make for the best experience for you and your guests. Make sure any yard waste removal takes place prior to the party.

TV Room: This summer, soccer fans might pile into your TV room to watch the World Cup on the 4th of July (even though the U.S. was eliminated).  You’ll want to make sure that every guest has a seat or place to watch – any extra junk like old shelves, chests, or furniture will only get in the way of a great viewing experience.

Although you could try and haul all this junk yourself, there are a number of responsibilities you need to take on for your 4th of July party.  The best option is to hire a reliable, efficient and eco-friendly Junk Removal service to do the hauling for you.  Junk King can be in and out in no time; before you know it your house and yard will be junk-free and good to go for the best 4th of July yet.
