Winter, Spring, Summer, or Fall, all you have to do is call – for Junk Removal

It’s an unavoidable fact of life that, no matter how hard we try to keep up, junk happens. It starts small: a cardboard box or two that you keep promising yourself will get recycled someday. Maybe a broken computer or television set that you haven’t managed to dispose of properly or a defunct car battery. Then the holidays begin, and it’s all downhill from there. Sound familiar? If it does, try not to stress! We all fall behind, no matter what the season, and when the piles begin to form, it’s easy to feel like you’re up against an insurmountable task. Whatever the problem, though, there’s a simple solution to those ever-increasing stacks of out-of-date magazines and damaged DVDs–hiring a junk removal company like Junk King can get you back to your life without spending days sorting through the mess.
The holidays were a great time to have family and friends come to visit. It’s a season of giving, and as satisfying as giving or receiving the perfect gift may be, by the time the New Year came around, it’s a fair bet that you started to build mountains of wrapping paper where your living room used to be. Giant cardboard boxes and Styrofoam packaging are a space-consuming mess, along with everything from used plastic dishware to the pieces of the vase your adorable nephew managed to knock over five minutes after arriving. Leaving piles of bags and a moldering tree lying at the curb is an irritating mess, not to mention an eyesore. Rather than allowing the leftovers of 2011 to give you a migraine, it’s worth the extra cash to call the professionals, so you can get back to concentrating on 2012.
As we all know, junk accumulation is also a seasonal event.  After you’ve weathered the winter and spring is in the air, it’s a tempting time to throw open the windows and indulge in a good spring cleaning. Even the most organized household can acquire outdated coupons and piles of clothing that’s damaged or a little “behind the times.” If you’re a gardener, it’s time to break out your mulch and your trowel–and before you know it, you’re dealing with piles of empty bags, unwanted items and even furniture that you just can’t find a place for. Bags of yard waste, like branches, mulch or clippings, will keep piling up through the fall–and running them to the city dump is time consuming even if you’ve got a vehicle that can handle it all.
Any time of year, it’s inevitable that messes will pile up. From used Halloween decorations and yard clippings to holiday gift wrapping and dried-up Christmas trees, there will always be times that standard garbage removal just won’t cut it. Rather than allowing yourself to be buried in bags and piles, or leaving the mess on the curb, why not just skip the headache? Across the country you can hire Junk King’s hauling pros, who can get rid of the mess quickly and easily, allowing you to get back to enjoying the season, whatever it may be.

Winter, Spring, Summer, or Fall, all you have to do is call – 1-800-995 JUNK – for the best Junk Removal service in the business.

It is good to be the King of junk, in Columbus, Ohio.

Starting Out:

Almost 2 years ago we became the first Junk King located outside of California when we opened our junk removal and hauling business here in Dublin, a suburb of Columbus, Ohio. We take great pride in offering excellent service and great value to our customers.

Located near Columbus, Ohio:

Being located in Northern Franklin County means we are ideally situated to serve suburbs and towns in this area and we frequently serve Dublin, Powell, Columbus, Hilliard, Westerville, New Albany, and Grove City. We even offer junk removal and hauling services as far north as Marysville and the Polaris area (which is something our competitors can’t say).

Environmentally Conscious Business:

A big factor in our success seems to be that we are “green.” A lot of our customers say that our description as “eco-friendly” contributed to their choosing us and we think that is because more and more people are concerned about the environment. We recycle over 65% of the items we collect and we donate all re-usable items to charity, so the amount of trash removed that ends up in a landfill is very small. It feels good to be in a business that helps people and the planet. Call us and we’ll pick up your bulk trash, donations, and recyclables fast and hassle-free!

Professional Furniture Disposal and Appliance Removal:

Many of our customers want help removing and disposing of large household objects especially big furniture and heavy, bulky appliances and we are always glad that people don’t risk injury by moving such things on their own; aside from being experienced, fit and strong, we also bring tools and equipment to assist us and make sure it is as safe as possible for everyone. We frequently remove and dispose of couches, desks, stoves, refrigerators, freezers, washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, furnaces, hot water heaters, air conditioners, and a surprising number of pool tables. We have never had a serious injury on a job and we work hard to keep it that way!

Hot Tubs, Spas, and Above-Ground Pools:

In the warmer months it sometimes seems like we run a business dedicated to removing hot tubs. These calls are one of the tougher calls we get, aside from the weight and size of most hot tubs they may also be connected to plumbing and electricity and this is where Eric’s experience installing water filtration systems really comes in handy because he understands all the dangers and the correct techniques needed to keep everyone (and everything) safe, dry and undamaged. The last thing our clients want to worry about is injury or damage and many hire us because they know we are experienced professionals.

Consumer Electronics:

We also get lots of calls to remove and recycle unwanted electronics like televisions and computers. As awareness about all the heavy metals and other toxic substances used in their manufacture grows, our services grows with it. It’s just not environmentally sound to throw away an old TV. We will pick it up and make sure that it is disposed of  properly. If it is a computer or any device with memory we will even make sure that the data is inaccessible so that it doesn’t fall into the wrong hands. All electronics are properly sorted, recycled, and safely disposed of.

Experience with Sensitive Situations:

It’s sad to say but we also sometimes get calls for sensitive and delicate situations like cleaning out estates, helping hoarders, and even foreclosures. In situations like that we exercise great care to act with sensitivity, professionalism and discretion. We think the least we can do is make a trying situation, like the death of a loved-one or the closing of a business, as painless and easy as possible.

Licensed, Bonded and Insured:

Our customers can rest assured that our employees all wear uniforms, and that we are licensed, bonded and insured. Our website features testimonials from some of our customers and we recently were awarded the Angie’s list super service award. On our site you can also find our blog about junk hauling and trash removal in Columbus, Ohio.

Holiday Christmas Tree Disposal and Junk Removal

The holiday season is a time of friends, food, and family. Celebrations are imminent, and your home may soon be playing host to everyone from coworkers to distant cousins. The season of giving is here, and getting your home ready for the flood of visitors, gifts, and parties is an inevitable challenge. It’s important to be able to enjoy your holidays, instead of being overworked by them. Keeping your house clean, tidy and clutter-free through it all is a challenge for anybody: try taking the stress out of the equation by letting someone else take care of all that post-party junk removal – Junk King.
While you dearly love the annual fruit basket from your great-aunt in Duluth, and are genuinely attached to the excitement with which small children tear into their gifts, the mess afterwards can turn holiday cheer into seasonal panic. Waking up the day after your holiday party to deal with a forlorn looking Christmas tree, piles of cardboard boxes, wrapping paper, plastic toy packaging and the mysterious “extra parts” from assembly-required toys can ruin a perfectly good vacation day. All that extra garbage is unsightly and frustrating at the very least, and leaving it all piled up next to your house doesn’t exactly compliment the seasonal lighting on your porch.
To keep the stress at bay, there are a few ways to keep your house looking its best. First and foremost, try cleaning as you go along. Nobody will object to a quick run-through of your living room while they’re having pre-dinner cocktails, to pick up napkins, wine corks, used paper plates or dirty glassware. Asking the kids to pick up their own wrapping paper as they open, or keeping a plastic bag on hand for the bits of cardboard and toy packaging, keeps them from leaving a mess when they insist on playing with their new toys immediately.
If you’re the kind of person who saves wrapping paper and likes to recycle empty bottles, make sure you have a place for them to go ahead of time. Request an extra recycling bin from your trash provider, and have a box ready for folded, leftover gift bags or paper. For things you can’t save, keep trash bags on hand: and when the parties are over, the guests have gone home, and you’re ready for some well-earned relaxation, call Junk King’s top notch junk removal service to have it all carted away. This means you don’t have to deal with backlogs of garbage bags or watching your Christmas tree disintegrate slowly on the curb while you wait for regular trash pickup, and gets the post-party chaos out from under your feet.  Junk King will make sure to provide you with efficient Christmas Tree Disposal and more.
The holiday season is a great time to enjoy the people you love, from close friends to distant family. Hosting parties and having out-of-town guests is a wonderful way to enjoy the season. To keep your house tidy and keep you stress-free, planning for the holiday excess in advance will make a world of difference. By tidying up as you go, reusing what you can, and hiring Junk King to deal with the piles of garbage you inevitably find yourself with, you can make sure your holiday, and the days that follow, are stress-free.

Big Junk Items That Can Be Recycled

It’s time to get rid of that old refrigerator or washing machine. You know it, your spouse knows it, and anyone who could see your bank statement would know it if they saw how much you’re paying for gas, water, and electricity. Those old appliances are literally sucking the life out of you. If you choose to upgrade now to energy star rated modern appliances you could save hundreds, even thousands of dollars per year. That makes them an investment, not an expense.
Now that you have come to grips with the fact that you have to get rid of your old appliances, how exactly do you do it? Your city waste disposal  might have a day or two a month when they come around to get items like that, but then the appliances most likely end up in a landfill. The chemicals inside them, particularly in air conditioners and refrigerators, will seep into the earth and poison it. You don’t want that, do you? You’re better off calling a junk removal company like Junk King that can take these items to the proper recycling center.
Junk removal isn’t the same as waste disposal. A waste disposal company’s sole purpose is to destroy or eliminate any waste or junk that you put out curbside. A junk removal company comes to pick up specific items, and they’ll take them to the right places for proper disposal. Many recycling centers will take used appliances. Depending on what state you live in, you might even get paid to get rid of the old items, in cash or with a rebate on a new appliance. Some of these “Cash for Clunkers” appliance programs still have a few dollars left in their budgets.
One man’s garbage is another man’s prize. That old refrigerator you want to throw away might just end up in someone’s garage, basement, or cottage. How many times have you gone on an outdoor adventure and seen an old General Electric or Maytag appliance? In a situation like that, the gas and electric bill aren’t a major concern. The machines aren’t used often enough to worry about it. Not only that, but when it comes to durability and longevity some of those old appliances are legendary.
Recycling doesn’t just apply to appliances either. Other large junk items like couches, kitchen tables, and old desks can be restored and would look great in someone else’s home or office. Do you have teenage children? They’re going to get their first apartment or dorm room soon enough. Maybe you should hang on to some of that furniture and let them have it when they move out. Who cares if it’s old and stained? Do you remember what your first place looked like?
There’s always a use for a used appliance or old piece of furniture. It may not be useful to you, but someone else could get some years out of it. Don’t throw it away. The landfills are full enough and even if it’s incinerated you’ll still be polluting the environment. If you can’t give it away or sell it at a yard sale, call Junk King at 1-800-995 JUNK and they’ll come by and pick it up in a jiffy.

Summer BBQ Preparation Guide

The sun is shining, the temperatures are warm, and that wonderful time of year is upon us again. Some people look forward to sandy beaches and water sports, but you know what summer is really all about. Its barbecue season and you aren’t nearly ready for it. Stop staring out the window wistfully; dreaming of all the good times you had in the past. This year is going to be better than all of them, but only if you start the preparations right now. Here’s a short to-do list that might help you:
Go grill shopping. Do this before the season starts also, even if you don’t need a new grill. You know, at some point during the summer, you will go to someone else’s house and covet their grilling set-up. That’s okay. Yours is fine, but you might want to convince yourself of that early by checking out new models. Who knows? Maybe you will upgrade. At the very least, you’ll probably buy some cool accessories.
Buy a freezer. This is for the really serious entertainers. Buy a freezer for the garage or basement and stock it full of meats to feed your friends and neighbors. The hot summer sun will thaw anything out in a few hours and your gas, propane, or charcoal grill will finish the job on time for lunch or dinner. There are some real advantages to having an extra freezer on the premises, the two most popular ones being always having enough to cook and the savings you can enjoy when you shop in bulk.
Invest in some real lawn and deck furniture. Do you really want your guests sitting on those flimsy folding chairs? How many did you break last year? Invest in some real furniture and make your home the comfortable barbeque spot everyone wants to visit. They’ll be talking about you long after the summer is over, and it will be for good reasons this time. People will gossip, no matter what, but gossip can be positive.
Clear all the junk out of the yard. If you don’t do this now at the beginning of barbeque season, you’ll never do it. There’s accumulated junk back there from the long winter of inactivity, maybe even a few items that have been there since before last summer. Did you procrastinate last season until it was too late? Don’t do it this year. Clean the yard and the porch while you’re at it, then call Junk King to get rid of everything before you start inviting friends and neighbors over.
Do some planning, but leave a few weekends open to be spontaneous. Grilling for friends and neighbors can be a lot of fun, but it gets monotonous if you do it every weekend. Don’t allow your source of enjoyment to become a chore. Plan a few weekend events, but leave other weekends open for spontaneous events. You may want to leave your back yard or deck at times to take advantage of those other summer activities – you know – the beach and water sports. You don’t have to give up grilling completely to partake in those. Bring the hibachi.

Post Halloween Clean Up

Halloween has come and gone, and very likely has left your home in a state of disarray.  You may have spent the past week putting together elaborate costumes for your kids (or yourself).  Depending on your level of enthusiasm, some of these costumers may have involved intense manual labor, including sewing, carpentry, welding and/or pyrotechnics.

Perhaps you threw your annual Halloween bash, complete with heat-sensing jack-o-lanterns and autonomous remote-controlled scarecrows to better haunt party-goers.  Even if you went low-tech with orange easter grass and a steamy witches’ cauldron – there probably was quite a mess waiting for you when you woke up the next morning.

Your annual Halloween ritual is sure to be followed by the annual post-Halloween clean up.   This could involve getting sticky candy goop off the floor and picking up every little wrapper and piece of discarded orange paper.  Some of the bigger tasks could involve hauling out carts of trash, costume parts and furniture that might have been damaged by the mess.

Although it doesn’t sound like a fun time, your post-Halloween cleanup could provide for a great opportunity to fix up your house.  After all, Thanksgiving is right around the corner and getting your house in proper order could impress your guests even more than a perfectly roasted Turkey.  Think about moving around some furniture, redecorating rooms for the holiday season, and even throwing out some old items.

Your Halloween party may not have damaged any of your furniture, but your cleanup will certainly let you evaluate some pieces of furniture in your home that are standing on their last leg (literally).  Imagine how great it would feel to replace those old items with brand new sets including couches, end tables, lamps, dining rooms tables and chairs. That Thanksgiving-day football game would certainly look better on a brand new flat-screen HD TV.  Think about hauling out that old boxy set and replacing it with a slim, lightweight, high-tech television.

Although you can probably handle the goop-pickup and window washing part of your cleanup process, you may need professional help for the larger items.  If you’re planning on redecorating and replacing any old pieces of furniture, there is sure to be some heavy-duty hauling on your task list.  Don’t risk throwing out your back or disfiguring the trunk of your car; simply hire a professional junk hauling service like Junk King.

Junk King is efficient and eco-friendly; recycling near to 60% of all hauled materials.  Simply call 1-800-995-5865 or book online to schedule a junk hauling appointment today.

The Three States of College Transition

In a variety of ways, college kids can generate a great volume of junk.  Whether they are leaving home for the first time, changing their dorm rooms, or moving out of  their first apartments, there always is a ton of waste left in their rear view.  These times of transition are often very hectic, both for the kids involved as well as their parents.  I’d like to take a look at the ‘three states of college transition’ and how the waste left behind can potentially be put to good use.

1.  Home to Dorm Move

The transition of an 18 year-old to their college dorm can leave their parent’s home in a state of disarray. First of all, their old room is in limbo: should it be transformed into a guest room, exercise center, study, or entertainment mecca?  The old bedroom is not the only affected area of the house.  There are pieces of furniture, old toys and clothes, TVs, bikes, hobby sets, as well as ping pong and pool tables that will no longer be used by the college-bound freshman.

It’s left up to the parents to navigate the waters from here.  The first step is to take inventory of everything that will no longer be necessary – the clutter and junk items.  The next step is to plan what do with all of the extra room.  Is new furniture required?  Is a total redecoration in order?  The final step is to figure out how to haul away all of that junk.  Many of the old clothes and toys can be donated to organizations like the Salvation Army.  Larger items can be sold for reuse if they are in good condition on a site like Craigslist, or otherwise hauled away to be recycled at the proper facilities.

2.  Dorm to Apartment Move

This second state of college transition often occurs when a student moves off-campus to their first apartment.  This means they will be buying their own furniture for the first time (another time to use Craigslist).  This also means they won’t need a lot of that ‘dorm only’ equipment that their parents helped them buy a few years back.  This includes shower caddies, mattress pads, mini-fridge / microwave combos, plastic drawers as well as a number of other novelty dorm items.  Although some universities help out with getting rid of all this junk, for the most part the fledgling apartment dweller will be required to dispose of everything on their own in a responsible manner.

3.  Apartment to Real World Move

This final state of transition happens when a college student moves out of their first apartment into the ‘real world.’ This could mean another apartment closer to a (hopeful) new job, moving in with a significant other, or transitioning to a different city.  No matter where life is taking them, this newly minted member of the workforce will be required to deal with quite a bit of apartment junk that has accumulated over the past few years.

This junk could include an old, heavy couch-set split among roommates, large boxy Televisions, Ikea-bought dining room furniture and old mattresses that certainly won’t make it to the next apartment.  With a new job on the line, our ex-student most likely won’t be fully ‘with it’ in terms of making plans to get rid of all of these items.

In fact, for any and all stages of college transition, students are going through a hectic time in their lives where they probably aren’t spending much time to think about what they are leaving behind.  That’s why hiring a professional, affordable and eco-friendly junk removal service can make all the difference in making a smooth transition. No hassles, no worries, and a guarantee that all of those useless items find their way to the proper recycling facilities.

5 Pieces of Old Furniture Likely to be Found in Your Home

For those of us who own a house or apartment, furniture is a very big part of our lives.  The type of furniture in your house decides the atmosphere that you spend most of your life in.   This means furniture is what you look at, what you sit and sleep in, and what you use on an everyday basis.  It’s pretty clear – furniture plays a big part in our lives whether we like to admit or not.

This is why it’s so difficult to get rid of old furniture.  You’ve spent all those years spending everyday with a piece of furniture, when the time comes to get rid of the item it can often be quite difficult.  You might make excuses for years, but eventually the time comes when that old piece of furniture needs to get hauled out to bring in the new.  Here is a list of five pieces of old furniture that are probably sitting around your house right now that you need to get rid of:

  1. Arm Chair: We all know how great a good ole’ armchair can be.  It could be lazy boy recliner in front of the TV, or a padded rocking chair by the fireplace.  This is where a person can sit down, read a good book, look out the window, or tell a story.  This is the chair that feels ‘just right’ because you’ve been sitting in it for so long.  Some of the best memories of our lives have been told from that old chair.  However, if anyone from the outside looks at your old chair they can see it with open eyes: it has rips along the side, stains on the surface, and splinters on the wood.  It’s time to get rid of that old chair.
  2. Bed: We spend one third of our lives sleeping, often in a bed that we’ve had for nearly a decade.  That old bed can provide the perfect respite after a long day’s work. However, because of many years’ use, the bed is starting to break down.  It isn’t providing the back support it used to, and it creaks in the middle of the night and often wakes you up.  It’s time to get a new, better bed that will suit all your needs.
  3. Family Couch: The old family couch is the centerpiece of every home.  This is where your family gathers to watch TV, chat, read the newspaper, or play games.  There are a lot of great memories on that family couch. However, the couch has been through new children, puppies and wear and tear, making it look like something out of ‘Mad Max.’  It’s time to find a new centerpiece to your home.
  4. Piano: Pianos last for quite a while.  You might have gotten the baby grand when you moved into the home, and it’s been there for fifteen to twenty years.  Your whole family has gone through a set of lessons on it, and you can tell from the sound.  Although you can retune a piano to have it fixed up, eventually worn wood and mechanics can permanently affect the sound quality.  Perhaps it’s time to pick out a new baby grand, or even a great sound electronic piano.
  5. Pool / Ping Pong Table: These classic basement games can be found in homes across the county.  Pool and Ping Pong tables have provided countless hours of fun for your family in friends, from day long tournaments to one on one grudge matches.  However, old equipment can really start to affect the quality of the game. Those bumps in your pool table and chips in your table tennis table can cause more than a few plays to go awry, as you’ve likely noticed.  New tables have drastically gone down in price lately, so it’s the perfect time to pick one up.

Make sure you don’t hurt yourself trying to haul these heavy old pieces of furniture out of your house. Junk King can efficiently and affordably pick that old junk up for you. Call 1-800-995 JUNK or book online to schedule a free on site estimate.

Professional Haulers Prevent Back Pain

We all know a friend or family member that has hurt their back lifting something heavy.  Back pain is the reason for one fifth of all physicians’ visits in the US, with a staggering nine out of ten adults experiencing back pain at least once during their lifetime.  Back pain can range from a mere everyday annoyance to a serious problem, underlying a medical condition or issue with the spine.

Although we all like to think we can hold our own in the lifting department, when it comes down to it very few people lift objects properly.  Improper lifting, without fully utilizing the legs, is one of the primary reasons for back injuries. Lifting heavy objects adds to the problem: the bigger the furniture, the bigger potential for a serious back injury.

Most of us have had the experience of removing furniture from someone’s house or apartment.   Carrying an old-school 40 inch television can put you in some awkward positions, reaching and grappling for a good grip and probably not paying attention to the ‘proper way’ of lifting.

Couches also are fairly difficult to maneuver while they are in one piece.  Trying to get couches down several flights of stairs can often be a three person job, which ends up with one person pinned against a stair railing or wall.  This type of situation is obviously is no good for back health.

Moving these types of heavy objects out of a home or apartment is often not taken seriously, but it can lead to a serious lifetime of back pain and problems.  Although it is ‘possible’ to haul your old furniture or junk out on your own, it’s probably not worth the risk.

Experienced and professional junk haulers like Junk King know the proper way to move large and heavy items.  Junk King employs trained professionals that will make sure to take care in not damaging any of your property while hauling the items out.  Although you will need to spend money for this professional service, it will be well worth the while- imagine the cost of doctors’ visits for the next several years due to a pinched nerve or rotated disk.

Recycle Old Furniture

There comes a time in every household when old pieces of furniture need to be disposed of.  Maybe it’s when the kids go off to college and you decide to buy some more upscale furniture.  Perhaps the new puppy went to work on those couches and coffee tables and replacements are in order.  Either way, replacing furniture means getting rid of the old stuff.  The question is: can getting rid of old furniture be done in an eco-friendly way?

Making the decision to recycle your old furniture is a big one, because it can end up impacting the environment around us.  Here are a few reasons why recycling old furniture is eco-friendly:

  • Recycling old furniture prevents the need for new material to be created and harvested from forests – your old furniture will end up getting scrapped and reused instead.
  • Recycling old furniture prevents all of the parts of your couches, chairs, tables and beds from ending up in a landfill.  If materials like cotton, wood and foam end up in a landfill they can decompose and release harmful chemicals and greenhouse gases into our atmosphere.
  • Recycling old furniture will end up saving precious energy – the amount of power necessary to recycle your old furniture is less than what it takes to build something from scratch.

So how do actually go about recycling your furniture?  Here are a few ways:

  • Break the furniture apart yourself and reuse parts for other projects around the house.  The wood from a table could be re-purposed for a building a new cupboard, and the upholstery from a couch could be used for designing new drapes.
  • Break the furniture apart yourself and drop it off at the proper recycling centers.  There are recycling centers around the country that accept various materials to be reused.  Just make sure you find the right center for the right materials.
  • Call in some furniture removal specialists who offer a recycling program.  Junk King, the best in old furniture removal and pick up, also makes sure that old furniture end up where it can be reused responsibly.

If you are interested in getting rid of your old furniture the green way, call Junk King at 1-800-995-JUNK or book a free on site appointment online.
