2011 is the Year to Start a Franchise Business

The Denver Business Journal recently published an article called “Franchising Expected to Pick Up This Year.” That’s a bit of an understatement. The International Franchise Association has some very optimistic stats for 2011.  Here are a few of them:

  • 4.7% Increase in Economic Output (services and goods that franchise businesses output)
  • 2.5% Increase in the number of franchise establishments and jobs (aprox. 194,000 more jobs nationally)
  • At the end of 2010 there were 765,723 franchise businesses, generating $706.6 billion, which will steadily increase throughout 2011.

Given the fact that the entire economy has been taking quite a hit over the past several years, these numbers are incredibly uplifting.  Although franchises in general have been slowly growing over the past decade, we saw a sharp decline in 2009 due to the economic downturn.  Now that we’re back on the right path  due to looser credit loans for businesses as well as a greater talent pool of workers going into franchising, we can expect continued growth in the sector.

Our Junk King franchisee out of Colorado Springs, Clint Hailey, was specifically highlighted in the Denver Business Journal as an example of how a franchise is a great way to start a successful business, particularly in the fast-growing junk removal industry.

From the Denver Business Journal: “The learning curve would be shortened; the success rate would be quicker,” said Hailey, who said he hopes to open another Junk King franchise in the Denver area after he’s made his first location profitable.  ”It’s kind of like a business in a box.  you open the box and it says, ‘Step one, step two, step three.’ Instead of creating your own dance steps, you get to put your feet on steps that are laid out for you.”

Junk King is currently riding the wave of overall increased franchise growth as well as specific growth in the junk removal franchise sector.   In 2011, Junk King is expected to see new franchises in a variety of locations across the country, including recent openings in Syracuse and Nashville, as well as the expected April launch of Junk King Los Angeles.

What’s in a Junk King Web Page?

The world today is more connected than ever through the internet.    The majority of Americans are doing a large portion of their daily activities online, including shopping, social networking and research.   It’s not only about doing what’s trendy or popular, such as going on Facebook and Twitter.  It’s about having instant access to information, where you want it and when you want it.

With our customer’s best interests in mind, Junk King has thoroughly ramped up the online presence of each of it’s franchises with unique webpages that make it easier than ever to find out information about Junk King. These local pages let Junk King customers from across the country have instant access to all the junk hauling info they need, including an easy way to book a free on site estimate. Here are a few of the great features on each franchise page:

1.  We’re Local: Although Junk King is a nation-wide brand that you can trust to perform at the highest quality level, we also like to stress our local roots in each community.  That’s why franchise pages  offer a local flair – from providing pictures of the area around you to giving descriptions of the local franchise owners.

2.  Easy Booking: This is Junk King’s version of shopping online.  We wanted to make it as easy as possible for our customers to book a junk hauling appointment with us.  With a few mouse clicks you can have a free on site estimate booked and a Junk King hauling team on their way to your home or office.

3.  Social Networking: We realize the modern day importance of social networking.   Not only does social media provide another pathway to provide information to our customers, but it also lets our customers connect with us.   Have a question, complaint, or comment about Junk King in your local area?  Simply find the Twitter or Facebook feed on the franchise page and let them know what you have to say.  Also keep up to date with local Junk King deals or announcements so you can really take advantage of your next home cleaning adventure.

4.  Testimonials: We know that it’s important for our customers to hear what other people are saying about each local franchise.  That’s why there is a ‘testimonials’ section on each local page that gives you a sample of inputs from various customers.   Hopefully if you hear the good word out there you’ll consider your local Junk King franchise when you need hauling services for your  home or office.

Junk King Franchises Continue Expansion

Junk King continues to differentiate itself from its competitors by providing the most efficient, eco-friendly and affordable junk removal service across the country.  The hauling company is rapidly expanding into new territories, including notable recent openings in Massachusetts, Mesa, Phoenix and Colorado Springs as well as expected launches in Chattanooga, Kansas City, Minnesota and Ohio.

Junk King recently signed Peter Gilfillan, a former Ford Motor’s general manager, as a Master Franchisee to expand franchises into the Colorado, Minnesota and Ohio.  Dennis Mulgannon, Junk King’s Director of Franchises commented on the company’s rapid growth: “The growth of our business is skyrocketing due to the millions of people constantly looking for dependable services to clean clutter and unwanted items from their homes or businesses.  We’ve turned to Peter to build on our momentum and grab a large piece of the vast market share in the multi-billion dollar junk removal industry.”

There are several reasons thus far for Junk King’s rapid expansion, even during the recent economic downturn.  One is the company’s commitment to professionalism.  Every Junk King employee, whether they are working in San Francisco or New York, is hired based on high standards of professionalism, skill, and integrity.  These employees are bonded and insured to make sure that a customer and their property are safe.

Another reason for Junk King’s success has been their commitment to the environment.  In a country where the ‘next big thing’ is clean energy and green technology, it makes perfect sense that Junk King has devoted considerable resources to recycling a large quantity of hauled materials.  Not only does this help local communities by creating a greener environment, it also contributes to Junk King’s overall brand recognition as an eco-friendly business.

What’s in a Junk Removal Blog?

Many people out there might ask themselves: “What in the world is a Junk Removal Blog?  What could possibly be so interesting in the business of junk removal that would require a blog all about it?”  Although those questions are often asked, there is actually quite a bit of interesting news in the junk hauling sector nowadays, particularly for the Junk King organization.

Junk King is rapidly expanding across the US, with new franchises in various locations like Tampa, Colorado Springs, Arizona and Massachusetts.  Many of our franchisees have unique and interesting stories: from why they first got into the junk removal business to some of the strangest items they’ve ever picked up.  Each of our franchisees also has their own local blog, Twitter account, and Facebook page where they can post updates and news about their territory.

I’d like to highlight a few recent posts from Junk King franchises across the country:

From the Junk King North San Diego Blog, an interview with franchise owner Bob Hoath:

Question: Is there one specific hauling job that stands out in your mind?

Bob:   Yes, we recently did a job for a gentleman in Escondido.  He had items in his garage ranging from small furniture to electronics such as computers and stereo equipment.  He even had a large pile of shrubs and tree trimmings he needed to get rid of.  He was so pleased that we were able to take everything at a good price and in a timely manner that he called back to just to thank us again.

Question: What’s one of the most interesting type of junk you’ve hauled so far?

Bob: We once came across a customer who was a big hunter. He had us hauling away all kinds of weird items that relate to hunting.  Needless to say, we came across a real fowl smelling freezer that he wanted us to dispose of.

Kyle: A 1950’s optometrist tool stand, which weighed an excess of 300lbs.

Question: What’s the biggest single item you’ve hauled so far?

Kyle: A 20-foot wooden sign making table.

Question: What’s the easiest part of your job?

Kyle: To me it’s dealing with the people, my wife and I both are very comfortable meeting new people and adapting to their needs.

Junk Removal Franchise Business

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to work for yourself? Entrepreneurship is a true American calling – one that this country’s foundations are built on.  Great U.S. entrepreneurs have created massive companies that will go down in the history books, including IBM, Microsoft, GE and Walmart. So what’s preventing you from making that decision and setting off to create a new company?

For one thing, it can be fairly terrifying to depart from your normal routine.  You’ve spent day in and day out getting a steady paycheck to support yourself and your family, and even thinking about jumping boat might make your stomach sink.  However, you also know that there is something beyond what you are doing, a calling to set out and be your own boss.

You also know that starting your own business can be extremely difficult.  How will you raise the capital to get off the ground?  How do you know that your idea has a high percentage chance of success?  What kind of assurance do you have?  Essentially, if you start a ‘from-scratch’ business, there is no assurance that you will be succesful.  In fact, most start-ups are destined to fail.  That’s why franchising has become a cornerstone of the American business model.

A franchise owner possesses all of the freedoms and opportunities of a startup entrepreneur, but also gains a wealth of assurances from his franchise hub.  A franchisee knows that they are working with a proven business model and a marketable brand.  A franchise owner also has a variety of tools at their disposal that boost their chance of success considerably.

Junk Removal is currently a booming franchise business in both the U.S. and within international markets, and Junk King has proven to be the premiere brand within the industry.  Junk King stands behind each and every one of their franchisees – every individual is a part of the ‘Round Table,’ and receives the full support to make their franchise location thrive.  If you’re interested in starting your own business and latching onto a proven business model, be sure to read more about the Junk King Franchise strategy.

A Typical Day for a Junk King Franchisee

Starting a junk removal franchise with Junk King is an exciting and lucrative opportunity for budding entrepreneurs around the globe.  Junk Removal is an expanding business sector as consumers look for reliable services to remove unwanted clutter from their home or business.

Junk King also recycles up to 60% of the junk they haul, which ties in nicely with the expanding green business sector.  For those who are thinking about getting into the Junk Removal business, I’d like to provide an example of a typical day in the life of a Junk King Franchisee:

  1. Say hello to Dan.  Dan recently bought a Junk King Franchise and has been doing great business around his city. This is the story of a typical day in the Junk Removal business for Dan.
  2. Dan starts off his workday by collaborating with his drivers:  providing them with schedules, routes, and quotas for the day.  The drivers then hop in their trucks and head out towards their booked junk removal appointments.
  3. Dan’s morning work doesn’t stop there.  He heads back to his office where he’s scheduled a presentation for a local business that may be interested in Junk King’s services.
  4. Meanwhile, a nearby homeowner calls with a request for Junk King’s junk hauling services.  This call is received at the Junk King Customer Call Center where a booking specialist inputs the details of the appointment into Junk King’s network – JunkKingNetware.  JunkKingNetware automatically sends the appointment request to Dan and his drivers.
  5. Dan can instantly access JunkKingNetware from a computer and see all the booked appointments as well as the location of all of his trucks.  Dan’s drivers can also access the appointments en-route from their mobile phones.
  6. One of Dan’s drivers picks up the new appointment information and heads over to the appropriate address.  The homeowner is glad to see the Junk King team give her an up  front estimate on how much the process will cost (based on how much room in the truck her stuff takes up).  She decides to move forward with the job and the team efficiently hauls away all of her unwanted clutter.
  7. Within 1-2 days, a representative from Junk King’s Customer Call Center rings the homeowner to find out if her junk removal needs were satisfied.
  8. Dan ends his day at the office, fulfilled after a job well done and making sure all loose ends are tied up.  He calls Junk King’s central office support with any questions that came up during the day so that he can do an even better job tomorrow.
