Junk King’s New Year’s Resolutions 2011

We have had a great 2010 here at Junk King.  Not only have we expanded with many more franchises across the country, but we’ve also been able to continue to provide our customers with the high level of service that they’ve become accustomed to.   For Junk King, providing a top-notch junk hauling service that leaves our customers feeling satisfied has always been our number one priority.

Although we’re incredibly satisfied with 2010, that doesn’t mean we can’t have resolutions for the New Year.  Just like everybody else, we are always looking for new ways to improve. We want 2011 to be even better in terms of franchise expansion as well as providing our customers with the best hauling service out there.

Holiday Recycling: Keeping it Green

The holidays are a great time for celebration.  It’s the time of year when family and friends come together, sometimes traveling from long distances. What’s not to celebrate? Santa Claus Could Use Some Junk Hauling

As the holiday spirit embraces us, we often tell our kids the many tales of Santa Claus and his elves up in the North Pole.  Most versions of the story are fairly similar: the jolly bearded man runs a tight operation in the freezing north, managing a hyper-efficient team of elves that are tasked with bringing joy to kids around the world.  The main purpose of this north pole base is to build a myriad of different toys and then deposit them in the homes of those kids who were ‘nice’ throughout the previous year.

A new show called ‘Storage Wars’ recently premiered on A&E that features a group of men who bid for old storage lockers that have been abandoned in hopes of finding hidden treasures.  Typically, a storage locker is ‘abandoned’ when the renter forgoes paying rent for more than 3 months, in which case  the company calls in the ‘Auction Hunters’ (which is actually another similar-themed show on Spike TV).

The premise of the show:  individuals need to bid on the goods within the locker prior to stepping into it.  Some end up finding nothing but old rusty auto parts and ripped up carpets.  Others find incredible antiques that sell for thousands of dollars.  They make a gamble with the junk and see if it pays off.

The truth is, most storage lockers contain mostly useless junk. What is an Efficient Home?

When people think of the word efficient they most often think of automobiles.  In a variety of recent car commercials, vehicles have been titled ‘efficient’ to tout their power, gas mileage and storage space.   One of the more memorable recent car commercials shows off a mini van that has seats that can be moved around, certainly making the vehicle more efficient as far as its use of space.

SF Giants Help Out with Bay Area Recycling

Those of us who live in the San Francisco Bay Area have been really excited about something recently: the San Francisco Giants.  Earlier this month, the Bay Area hometown team won the National League West Division for the first time since 2003 and since they’ve gone on to defeat the Atlanta Braves in the first round of the playoffs.

Not only are the Giants giving Bay Area fans a sport to root for in October, but they are also are helping out California’s environment with a monumental recycling program.  The Giant’s home field, AT&T Park, boasts a recycling program that recycled nearly 75% of all its collected waste last year.  That’s approximately 1,750 tons of junk that was recycled and avoided ending up in a landfill.

From Reuters: “The Giants are the best in the West, and just might be the best recyclers in all of baseball,” SF Environment Director Melanie Nutter said in a statement. “This level of recycling is incredibly high for a ballpark and may even be the highest in the country for this type of facility.”

Getting the recycling program at AT&T park to such a high performance level wasn’t easy.  Not only are there more than 100 recycling receptacles in public areas throughout the ballpark, but the Giants management team also has made a commitment to training its custodial staff in sorting out recyclable materials.
