Northern Kentucky Furniture Disposal

When it comes to getting rid of big items like old furniture you have several options. Actually, that holds true with anything you want to get rid of. These options are trash it, donate it or pass it along.

The “pass it along” option works best when you’re dealing with a special piece of furniture in good condition. Many families, especially in Northern Kentucky, have one or two items that have been handed down through the generations. These are pieces of furniture, china, silverware or other keepsakes that not only hold a lot of sentimental value but also could bring a hefty price is the object was ever sold. To keep it in the family means to pass it along to another deserving member. It might happen that if you’re moving into a new place and don’t have room for that big dining room table, you can pass it off to a family member knowing they’ll keep it where it belongs: in the family.

For an item you might not be so sentimentally attached to, you could donate it. As long as it is still in good shape, there are many charitable organizations who would appreciate this type of donation. The trick is finding one who does pickups otherwise you’ll be stuck with the responsibility of hauling an old sofa or bedroom set to a drop-off facility. That’s probably not going to work unless you rent a truck and have friends who will help you move something big. When was the last time you asked a friend to move? If the charity does pickups then you’ll probably be forced to work around their schedule. That’s okay if you work from home or have a lot of free time on your hand but not the best option for someone with a 9-5 job.

The final choice would be to “trash it.” But there’s a problem with this option. You can’t throw out the item in the weekly trash pickup because it’s just too big and heavy. This is when you should the hire professional junk hauling team at Junk King Northern Kentucky to handle the assignment. Unlike those charity workers, these junk haulers will be working on your schedule. If that means after 5 or on the weekend then so be it; they’re not going to charge you extra!

The “trash it” option is also best for those items that are no longer useful. If that sofa has springs busting out of the cushions then you really don’t want to give that away to a charity. Instead, it can be recycled and reused when your junk hauler goes “green.” These same junk haulers don’t just have to be hired to take away old furniture. They can also be called upon to clear out any junk you have laying around in your garage, basement or attic. Getting rid of all that junk means you’ll be getting back some very valuable space in your own home. That’s certainly going to be worth the effort!

Louisville Junk Recycling

When it comes to recycling, Louisville residents have two options: Curbside or drop-off. The curbside program is available to any residential building that has eight or less units. What each resident is provided with is an 18-gallon orange plastic container that is offered free of charge by the Division of Solid Waste Management. With the curbside program there are some guidelines to follow.

This program is a “single stream system”  which means you can put all your approved recyclable materials into the orange bin. You are supposed to set out the orange bin by the curb by 6:00 a.m. on the collection day but no earlier than 4:00 p.m. the day before. You are also encouraged to flatten down the cardboard boxes or other packaging materials you’re putting in the bin. If you happen to live in a condo then you’ve got to make arrangements for a pick-up through your HOA. Take note that all of this curbside recycling is for the city of Louisville. For anyone living in the suburbs of Louisville, you’ll have to make special arrangements for a private contractor.

Then there is the drop-off option. There are currently 11 drop-off centers spread out around the Louisville area where you can “deposit” your recyclable materials. This means you’ll be doing all the hauling. Plus you have to accomplish the drop-offs during weekday business hours. That’s not the most convenient of methods.

So, if you’re lucky to live somewhere that has curbside recycling it will be easy to become eco-friendly. But what about all those items that might not fit into that orange bin? That doesn’t mean you have to give up your desire to recycle; you’ll just need some specialized help. That help can come in the form of professional junk haulers who are also eco-friendly – Junk King Northern Kentucky.

A professional junk hauler is someone you’ll be able to schedule an appointment with just like you would with any other service person. This means they’ll show up on time for that appointment and follow your instructions for getting the junk removal job done right. What can you recycle with this professional crew? Pretty much anything.

For instance, an old sofa or loveseat that is too worn out to be comfortable can be dropped off at the proper recycling center where all its construction materials will be separated and sorted. If you have an old stove that you’re not using that will be sent recycling center which handles scrap metal. The goal with any recycling program is to try and avert as much garbage away from landfills as possible. That holds true garbage of all shapes and sizes. Junk King N.
